For Tori Spelling, just being a mom apparently means allowing her children watch True Tori.
For Jon Arrigo, a 28-year old Reddit user, just being a dad means hanging out with his daughters, playing video games and letting his toenails be painted.
On December 2, Arrigo posted what he believed to be a sweet family photo online, though the reaction from many critics around the World Wide Web was anything but.
In shock and outrage that a father would play video games while seemingly not caring about his children, users posted angry comments in response to the above photo.
“This looks less like multitasking and much more like an amazing ability to ignore his kids,” wrote Farren246, while another user chimed in with:
“I understand kids are infuriating at times but here it looks like they are being well behaved. Why not interact with them a little? The game will be there when they’re in bed.”
Arrigo tells Yahoo Parenting that he didn’t expect such vitriol upon sharing what he sees as a pretty basic image.
“I rarely post photos, but I thought this was just a funny picture that showed us all doing what we love to do,” he says. “It really captured what a typical night looks like at our house.”
And, seriously, it could be A LOT worse.
At least Arrigo didn’t pretend to throw his child off a balcony and/or at least he didn’t partake in any of the following, very questionable parental moves:
In a comment posted a few hours after the photo went viral, Arrigo responded to those who questioned his parenting skills:
“I did not expect my toenails to be front page news today, let alone be a judgement on today’s parenting…but here we are! A few things, the fingernails were done next, they have been more difficult to get off than I expected as well. … And I love my kids and play with them all the time, thanks!”
