When I look into your eyes… all I see is a stranger.

So Elena said to Damon on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 7, as her attempts to recharge her positive memories of her not-actually-dead boyfriend didn’t go as she hoped.

That is, until Elena stepped over the Mystic Falls border and a flood of recollections did come rushing back to her.

Of course, she risked death by doing so, prompting Damon to pull her back to the other side (no, not that Other Side) and also prompting him to come to a realization:

Elena really is better off without me.

Therefore, Damon told Elena that he loves her. He loves her enough to let her go and let her be happy and be successful and become a doctor and not be bogged down in the Delena of it all.

Some might call this a brave move. We call it a way for The Vampire Diaries to keep dragging out a storyline when, come on, we ALL know Elena will someday get her memories back.

Instead, this day ended by her dealing with Liam, who is suspicious of the why the girl Elena helped save at the corn maze is cured of all her past injuries and also suspicious of why the boyfriend she claimed was dead is actually alive.

He wants answers.

But at least Damon got one answer: to close the hour, he stumbled upon Bonnie’s teddy bear from 1994.

She had put her magic into it and sent it back in order to prevent Kai from transporting back to present day Mystic Falls with her. So now Damon knows his sworn enemy/quasi best friend is still alive.

ELSEWHERE:

  • Jo opened up a bit to Alaric about her crazy family. She said the scar on her abdomen was from her brother trying to save her open. Yup: Jo is Kai’s sister!!!
  • Caroline stuck to her bitter guns and told Stefan they can’t be friends. She was too hurt when he left because it clearly meant he didn’t have feelings for her. Yup: it came out that Caroline sometimes looks at Stefan as more than a friend.
  • Some of Tripp’s vampire-hunting friends kidnapped Caroline’s mom and threatened her life. They wanted to exchange her for Tripp. So they met Stefan and Caroline on the border.
  • Once the trade was made, however, and Tripp walked over the border… he died. Turns out, Enzo made him into a vampire prior to giving him up. Now he’s dead. And Matt is sad that he’s lost a father figure.

So not exactly an eventful installment. The Delena nonsense is just that: nonsense.

It’s very, very cool that Jo is Kai’s sister. That storyline easily has the most potential of anything else on the series right now… which isn’t really saying much.

Anyone else feel as it’s boring to watch The Vampire Diaries online these days? Or on television?

But maybe that will change next Thursday night! Here’s a look ahead to The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 8:
