Last night on The Mindy Project Season 3 Episode 4, Mindy’s project was to impress Danny as their romance continued to move into new, unexplored territory.
Quite literally, it turned out. Just ask Mindy about that.
The Mindy Project Season 3 Episode 4 brought back memories of Seinfeld’s "Master of Your Domain" contest, in which the actual word was never uttered.
Whereas that episode was about masturbation, and who could go the longest without doing so, this one was all about anal sex, which Danny is all for.
While this led to some genuinely funny moments, it fell short of that Seinfeld classic and it was probably a bit of a stretch to build an entire episode on this.
Clearly, Mindy and Danny feel the need to try something new to inject life into a romance they already feel getting stale, even though to fans it isn’t.
The long and short of it was that they grow closer in spite of their failures in some of these endeavors, because pushing their limits is half the battle.
Still, one would expect it to be slightly funnier.
The "I Slipped" line that the episode is titled for, and what should be the big hook to get you to watch The Mindy Project online, isn’t quite convincing.
Would Danny really compare Mindy to an old shoe? Would she really need to drug herself when she’s been pretty adventurous in bed in the past?
On the plus side, The Mindy Project has terrific supporting players and any focus on Mindy and Danny is a big step up from where we were a year ago.
Sure, some weeks don’t quite hit the mark, but like Dr. Castellano’s attempt to go "there" you can’t blame the writers for trying with the best of intentions.
Even the middle-of-the-road episodes are salvaged by some killer one-liners, and the mere presence of Peter and Morgan, no matter what they do.
In other words, it’s a home run, or at least a ground rule double, even when it strikes out, and we would get to fifth base with The Mindy Project anytime.
Or something.
