"I might not have married Booth or had Christine. Daisy certainly wouldn’t be carrying his child. All of us here, we are all who we are because we knew Sweets."

"He’s here. Sweets is a part of us. Our lives, who we all are at this moment, have been shaped by our relationship with Sweets." – Brennan on Bones Season 10 Episode 2.

Thursday night’s episode of the FOX drama, appropriately titled "Lance to the Heart," picked up in the wake of the stunning death that rocked the team to its core.

It handled the event in emotional fashion, and perfectly so.

Brennan’s quote above says it all. If you watch Bones online, you won’t see John Francis Daley’s character on this episode, and yet he was its start.

Not only did the other characters mourn the loss of their beloved team member, but Sweets influenced the way his friend sought to bring his killer to justice.

The profound impact this development is having cannot be understated, particularly for Booth, who in typical fashion, blames himself for Sweets’ demise.

Brennan might logically try to dissuade him of this belief, but he feels he should’ve served that warrant, and he will clearly carry that guilt for some time.

Booth later tries to channel his old friend, though, in looking for a new perspective on the case. Brennan, meanwhile, has changed a lot because of him.

Willing to consider a psychological and religious perspective, not only the science that she’s been taught? Sensitive and open-minded Brennan?

You can thank Sweets for that … and for the tears he caused later when it was revealed that he wanted to name his unborn child Seeley after Booth.

Agent Aubrey, meanwhile, is Sweets’ replacement on the cast, if not in life. The bad news is that this is a hard task, filling shoes of this calliber.

The good news is that he seems different, and also like he won’t come in and stir up conflict, so while we will forever miss Sweets, this could work out.

There was plenty of tension, as well, between Booth and Brennan, so it’s not like all of the past three months has been swept under the rug.

They also still haven’t dealt with his imprisonment, though it’s understandable why this would be put on the back burner due to Sweets’ murder.

With his murder finally solved, the installment ends with Sweets’ funeral, and not a dry eye in the house. Later, his ashes are scattered in Washington D.C.

As a final sendoff to Sweets, the gang sings his favorite tune, which fans know well. "Lime in the Coconut" always put him in a good mood. Us too.
