Professional networking site LinkedIn has now updated its privacy policy and terms of use agreement to specifically ban prostitutes, escorts and adult services.
In related news … those things hilariously used to be on LinkedIn.
According to the terms, users may not, “even if it is legal where you are located, create profiles or provide content that promotes escort services or prostitution.”
Prostitution is a “skill” for which you can be endorsed by other users.
However, that particular LinkedIn attribute also seems to apply to law firms, legal and advocacy groups, law enforcement and religious outreach groups.
Though some are surprised that sex workers use LinkedIn to build a network of clients, it’s no surprise to the many social media-savvy escorts themselves.
CNN Money last month covered sex workers who use the internet to grow their businesses, and many consider themselves to be entrepreneurs.
LinkedIn, to that end, represents a treasure trove of 200 million, mostly disease-free professionals. Some might even call it a potential high-paying client base.
At least it was, before this new buzzkill policy. Weaksauce.
