Tragic news today out of Toms River, New Jersey:
No names have been released in relation to the incident, but a four-year old shot a six-year old Monday night outside the former’s home.
Police Chief Michael Mastronardy has confirmed that the male toddler took a break from playing with his friend, entered his home, returned with a .22-caliber rifle and shot the six-year old from about 15 yards away.
No word yet on whether the gun went off accidentally or if the trigger was actually pulled, but the six-year old is in serious condition.
The parents of the younger child were home at the time of the shooting and authorities are deciding whether or not they should be charged.
Gun control, of course, continues to be an issue of debate around the country, with Colorado and Connecticut lawmakers recently passing new restrictions and Jim Carrey getting into it with critics over his take.
