Scott Weiland has been fired by Stone Temple Pilots, the band he fronted for more than two decades. This news begs the following questions, among others:
- Stone Temple Pilots are actually still around?
- What could Weiland do to get fired NOW?
It’s true in any event. The group says in a statement, “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.”
That’s it. No further explanation given.
Weiland, as pretty much the definition of a rock star, was central to STP’s sound throughout the 1990s and beyond as they piled up a string of hits.
The 45-year-old denied rumors he was leaving the band just yesterday, telling Rolling Stone, “STP has not broken up. I haven’t quit. I haven’t been fired.”
STP actually reformed in 2008 after a five-year hiatus and toured up until last year. It’s not clear if they have any new singers in mind to replace Scott.
For now, though, the lead vocalist spot remains a “Big Empty.”
Sorry.
