It’s time to give Javaris Crittenton his due.
The Washington Wizards guard has been largely overlooked as the other dude in the gun-toting, locker room standoff with the team’s star, Gilbert Arenas.
But let’s not forget that it was Crittenton who:
- Allegedly threatened to shoot Arenas in his surgically repaired knee after he lost money to him at cards, sparking an infamous prank gone awry
- Happened to be strapped himself, pulling his piece after Arenas laid four firearms out in the locker room and left a note telling him to “Pick 1”
For his role in this ridiculousness, Javaris Crittenton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor weapons violation. Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge.
STRAPPED: Javaris Crittenton will no longer be packing heat.
Crittenton pleaded guilty Monday to possession of an unregistered firearm. The D.A. will drop a charge of attempted carrying a pistol without a license.
The player apologized for what he called an “embarrassment” before being sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation for the misdemeanor.
Senior Judge Bruce Beaudin ordered Crittenton to do outreach work with young people in the Washington, D.C. He was also fined a total of $1,250.
Crittenton’s lawyer, Peter H. White, says Crittenton brought a legally owned, unloaded handgun to D.C. “only because he legitimately feared for his life.”
