Guess THG birthday wishes weren’t enough for Miley Cyrus.
The singer turns 17 today, but was feted last week with a surprise party thrown by mother Tish.
As reported by People, Miley was surrounded by friends, family and boyfriend Liam Hemsworth for the occasion, celebrating with a 1980s-themed bash at New York City’s Canal Room.
“The whole thing was a surprise,” said an insider, who detailed performances at the shindig by Broadway’s Rock of Ages cast, along with a custom-designed cake created by Buddy Valastro, star of TLC’s Cake Boss.
Two years ago, Miley enjoyed another ‘80s-themed party in Nashville. Said her mom at the time:
“She loves the ‘80s. The fashion, the big hair– she thinks it’s so funky.”
That explains why Cyrus is appearing in the Sex and the City sequel. As previously reported, that movie will flash back to the 1980s for a couple scenes.
